THEMED WORKOUTS

For families to have FUN getting fit together!

And for fun fitness at schools and nurseries

Family Fitness classes are designed by mum and fitness expert Su, to maximise fun. The classes follow a different themed adventure each week for kids AND parents/carers to join in with. As a qualified personal trainer, specialist in youth exercise and pre and postnatal exercise, Su can adapt workouts to keep everyone moving at their own pace.

Some popular themes include pirates, outer space, fairytales, lions and the circus.

Fit Stars classes use the same format but are adapted to run at schools and nurseries. Children learn to join in independently and as a team with their peers. Themed classes can be created in line with the school’s or nurseries’ learning topics to provide a fantastically fun way of learning in a cross-curricular and active way.

“You'll have so much fun you won't even notice you're exercising. Think of it as playtime at the gym!”

Susan Hodgson, founder of Family Fitness

Fitness should be FUN!

Here’s how we do it

Easy, fun Craft

Making

Each class begins with 10 minutes of a simple craft such as an animal mask or pirate bandana. Great for developing fine motor skills and creativity. The craft is then worn or used to help keep the imagination firing during the active adventure that comes next.

Materials are usually basic items so crafts can be easily recreated at home where we encourage children to carry on their fitness adventures!

Modern Pentathlon Theme

Moving

The instructor tells a story, on-the-move, based on the theme of the day, where we are all the main character. Normal exercise moves are disguised as actions our character must do to complete their adventure. Why run on the spot when you can be climbing the rigging, or do star jumps when you can be the star in space?! The adventure is followed by more active games.

Freestyling is welcomed and low-impact options are always given . There are no wrong moves as long as it’s fun!

Learning

Children will be asked for their input throughout the class, from sharing knowledge about the theme of the day, such as sea creatures, to suggesting moves, such as how to move like a jellyfish. New moves will be taught to help develop coordination, balance, strength and general fitness. Fun health facts will be thrown in here and there and there’s a celebration of what we’ve achieved at the end.

Reviews

“Joni’s had an absolute ball following along to family fitness sessions. As a three year old, her attention span can waver, but she would always join in for the whole session, adding a few of her own moves whilst she went along!
The sessions are well paced and got my heart rate up as well for good measure ❤️😝”

“Family fitness sessions were the only thing the kids excitedly waited for. The sessions made them move and kept them busy. We were really glad to see them doing fitness with fun. Lockdown and school closure were really hard and dark but Family Fitness was one of the reasons they smiled and moved happily. For those reasons thank you very much!”

“I love the different adventures and I love seeing the Family Fitness children doing the class with their mummy.”

I hope to help with ‘the juggle’ that all parents strive to achieve.

The juggle of looking after your own health as well as that of your children’s is real.

Time, money and energy can all be lacking after we’ve looked after the smaller ones in our lives. Family Fitness aims to tackle all three barriers.

These workouts can be done at home, together with the family, in a small space and all on a minimal budget.
